Essential Reminders
Be Punctual
- Check the date, time, and location of your interview:
Arrive at least fifteen minutes early.
- If you have to wait in the lobby, don't space outread
company materials while you wait.
- Make sure to be courteous to the receptionist or
greeter. They will offer an opinion of you too.
Introduce yourself
- If you are given a name tag, put it high on your
right shoulder; that way, while you shake hands, people can follow the
line of your arm straight up to your namewithout having to scan
your chest.
- If the nametag you are given asks you to write the
organization you are from, write "self."
- Be courteous, have a firm handshake, look people
in the eyes, and smile.
Look interested
- Listen.
- Have good posture.
- Offer affirmative gestures: smile, nod.
Wrap up
- Ask about the next step in the process.
- Thank the interviewer.
- Take a business card so that you can write a thank
you note later.
Follow-up
Periodically follow up in order to reconfirm your interest in the position.
Write a thank you letter to anyone
you have spoken to.
Keep in mind
Interviews are meant to be two-way: You are checking the employer out for
a good fit also. Don't settle for a work environment you won't feel comfortable
