The On-Campus Interview Dates for
Spring 2008 will be:
February 18, 2008 – April 24, 2008

Please check the employers OCR job postings in SpartaJobsfor Resume Submission deadlines. There will be strict deadlines and no exceptions will be made if you have missed the date.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How to Apply through SpartaSystems:

  1. Register: Login to the Career Center’s SpartaSystem and complete your registration.
  2. Upload your Resume/Cover Letter. (Your cover letter should be the first page of your resume.) To upload your resume/cover letter, click on the "Documents" tab and proceed. Click on the "Help" button for instructions if needed.
  3. Apply for Positions: Once you are registered and have uploaded your resume/cover letter in SpartaSystem, you will be able to submit your resume directly to the employer for OCR positions.
  4. View Positions: To view available OCR positions from the SpartaSystem Homepage, select "Campus Interviews I Qualify For" from "QuickLinks." You may also search via the "Jobs" screen using the SpartaJOBS sub-menu. Select "Campus Interviews I Qualify For" from the "Show Me" drop-down menu and click the search button, “Career Fair Postings”.

Students must meet all of the employer’s requirements to submit an on-line resume. The employer will then review the submitted resumes and “pre-select” those students who will be invited for an interview.

  1. Check your email regularly. You will hear back from the employer directly if you have been selected for an on-campus interview.

After You Have Applied through SpartaSystems:

    • Make sure to attend one of the Career and Internship Job Fairs to meet and interact with employers conducting on-campus interviews. This is an outstanding opportunity to meet with representatives from well-known organizations who have anticipated career or internship opportunities. It is also a great way to make contacts.

After Meeting with Employers who attended one of our Career/Internship Fairs:

    • Check to see if you have been pre-selected for interviews by logging onto SpartaSystem and clicking on the "Interviews" button from the navigation bar. Note: An interview is not guaranteed if you, the student, fail to accept the invitation and meet the sign-up deadline.
    • Keep a record of your appointments. Students have very busy schedules, and it is recommended that all appointments be recorded on a personal calendar. Remember, it is your responsibility to keep all scheduled appointments.
    • Be professional during your job search. If you must cancel an interview, do so a minimum of at least 2 business days prior to your scheduled interview. To cancel, log in and click on the “Interviews” tab and cancel your interview. If you fail to cancel your interview in time you will be considered a “no-show”.

Tips for Success

Before Attending Job Fairs:

  • Attend our Job Fair Success Workshop AND our Interview Workshop to sharpen your interviewing skills and to review interviewing etiquette. Participating in our Mock Interview Workshop will also give you an opportunity to practice and refine your interviewing skills. Please go to the Career Center Calendar for a list of the dates and times of these workshops.
  • Research the employers that will be attending our Career/Internship Job Fairs and determine which employers have positions that you are interested in.
  • Target employers that have positions which you are interested in and those that are conducting on-campus interviews.

Before the Interview:

  • Research the company and know the position for which you are seeking employment. It is also important to knowabout the company (products or services, size of organization, geographical locations, history of organizations organization culture, etc.).
  • Make note of your transferable skills, prior skills you have obtained from your classes, part-time employment, volunteer, or extra-curricular activities that can be transferred to the position which you are interested in.
  • Attend an Interview Workshop and/or a Mock Interview Workshop to sharpen your interviewing skills and review interviewing etiquette. See Career Center Calendar for dates.
  • Review potential interview questions and practice your answers. Check out the Interviewing section on the Career Center website. Drop-in during Mock Interview office hours and meet with a Career Consultant to ask additional questions or practice answering potential interview questions.

The Day of the Interview

  • Arrive 10 to 15 minutes BEFORE your scheduled interview. Interviews are conducted in the Career Center, Bldg. Q. Please proceed upstairs to Room 10, Student Waiting Room, and be seated. If you need to confirm your appointment, please check the bulletin board on the day of your interview.
  • Dress professionally in business attire (suits). For questions about attire, check the Interviewing section on the Career Center website.
  • Once you have scheduled an interview, you have the professional and ethical obligation to cancel your scheduled appointment if you are unable to show up for your interview. Please contact Customer Service Desk in the Career Center at employer.services@sjsu.edu or call (408) 924-6031.
  • Send a Thank You note after the interview. Sending a thank you letter is not only good courtesy, but it is also another way of getting your name and qualifications in front of a recruiter or a networking connection. A thank you letter can also be one more way of highlighting your writing skills. Check Thank You Letters on the Career Center website.
